The EA 219 Soft Pad High Back Executive Chair is part of the renowned Soft Pad Group chair collection – a luxurious addition to the Aluminium Group of chairs designed in 1958 by Charles and Ray Eames.

Although the EA 219 was designed in 1969, its original design and key innovations stem from the Aluminium Group of chairs – a collection that has won countless awards and is famous the world over. Indeed, many believe the Aluminium Group is one of the major design innovations of the 20th century.

The Aluminium Group of chairs were designed in 1958 and cleverly utilised aluminium – a relatively new material at the time – to form strong, elegant frames that suspended upholstery within them as an integral part of the structure. In 1969, the Eames developed the Soft Pad Group collection which took the renowned technologies and shapes of the Aluminium Group, and added sumptuously soft, square pads for extraordinary comfort.

Modern designers still seek to imitate the EA 219’s minimal construction, suspended upholstery and clean lines, which are all masterfully blended with soft, comfortable cushions. Quite simply, the EA 219 is the ultimate executive chair for anyone serious about style, and remains a key investment for designer environments around the world.
