The Eames DSW Dining Chair stems from revolutionary processes, designed by the couple in their own home. The first ‘moulded plywood’ technique was originally developed in the Forties in the spare room of Ray and Charles Eames’ Los Angeles apartment. By creating a machine that mass-produced moulded plywood, the Eames were able to create 5,000 leg splints for the US Navy during the Second World War. That order enabled the Eames to move their workshop into bigger and better premises and begin using their clever manufacturing processes to design furniture. The rest is history.

The second technique was moulded plastic reinforced with fibre glass. It won the couple an award at the New York Museum of Modern Art in 1948, and made designer furniture available to the masses.

Part of a four-piece set, the Eames DSW Dining Chair (Dining Height Side Chair Wood) offers many practical features that enhance comfort and durability. Rubber shock absorbers connect the seat and base which enhances the chairs adaptability making it comfortable over long periods. In fact, the seat was ergonomically sound years before Health and Safety Executives made it a priority.

The wooden legs of the Eames DSW Dining Chair, which provide a pleasant natural accent to the moulded plastic seat, also incorporate bent wire for maximum support. The result: a harmonious chair that marries strength, design good-looks and comfort.

Highly practical, the Eames designed this chair to be extremely easy to care for, which means it is likely to look as good in twenty years as it does on the day of purchase. The Eames DSW Dining Chair is also compact, which means it fits into the smallest of modern spaces. But don’t be fooled by its size. This chair has big, bold designer lines which shout ‘good taste’ and offer plenty of space for relaxing in comfort.
